Event: Data Governance, Privacy and Protection Workshop

Organizations are increasingly relying on digital technology to increase huge volumes of data exposing them to related risks including unauthorized access and potential privacy breaches. The regulatory environment around data privacy and protection is evolving to address potential breaches with governments and standard-setting bodies developing frameworks to safeguard personal identifiable information. In Kenya this has given rise to the Office of Data Protection Commissioner and the Data Protection Act. Internal Auditors need to understand the risks associated with data governance, privacy and protection their responsibilities and opportunities that can be exploited.
This workshop will cover:
- The history and growth of privacy and data protection issues.
- Data Governance.
- Fundamentals of data literacy: Reading Data, Working with Data, and Communicating through Data.
- Techniques to apply data literacy to the internal audit process.
- Regulatory context around data privacy and protection.
- Risks associated with data protection.
- Opportunities presented by data privacy.
- Internal audit profession's response to data protection and privacy issues.
- Privacy and Data Protection: Internal Audit's Role in Establishing a Resilient Framework.
- Auditing the cybersecurity, data privacy policy, identity and access management.
- Auditing Cybersecurity Operations: Prevention and Detection.
- Threats to data and information assets.
- Tactics to protect data and information assets.
The workshop will be from August 26-30, 2024, at the Sarova Whitesands Resort, Mombasa. Charges are KES 55,000 and KES 60,000 exclusive of VAT for members and non-members respectively. Members in attendance will earn 20 CPE Hours.

The Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya is an accredited training provider with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). The NITA registration number is NITA/TRN/558(25b).
