An adult makes 35,000 decisions a day on average. Those in leadership positions make more decisions than the daily average, and many of those decisions are stressful and impact individuals beyond the decision-maker. This has the potential for decision fatigue and burnout. But how is this related to Enterprise Risk Management?

Managing risk is not a process, a tool, a department, or even a compiled list of risks. It is how an individual, a team, or an organization makes better business decisions. Risks are part of every decision, from the simplest choice to the highest-level strategic options.

This workshop will explore group activities and real-world scenarios, leveraging theory and frameworks. The COSO Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework was updated in 2017 with increased emphasis on the recognition that risk management is fundamental for an organization to align its actions with its strategy. Similarly, ISO 31000:2019 addresses risk management and provides a streamlined standard for managing risk. Using these frameworks, this workshop will explore the foundations of risk and risk management across the entire organization.

This intensive and interactive workshop will provide participants with detailed guidance on establishing a formal ERM process, including setting risk appetite, tolerance, and risk indicators, as well as useful references on ERM frameworks, to help participants take immediate action to build or strengthen the risk management process of their organizations.

The workshop is designed for Internal Auditors, Risk Champions, Risk and Compliance Officers, Finance professionals, Business Unit Heads, Departmental Heads, Managers, and professionals at all levels who deal with the complexities of ERM.

The workshop will cover:

• Organization-wide risk as an integral part of decision-making.
• Relationship between enterprise risk management, strategy, and objective setting, and decision-making.
• Approaches to identify, assess, prioritize, and respond to risks at the enterprise level.
• Communicating risk information and reports on risk and performance.
• Board/executive oversight, operating structures, and allocation of activities for enterprise risk management.
• Governance and Culture:Impact of Culture, performance management, and organizational structure on risk management and achievement of organizational objectives.
• Assessing changes, reviewing risk vs. performance, and improving enterprise risk management.

The workshop will be held from October 30-November 3, 2023, at Sarova Whitesands Hotel, Mombasa. Charges are KES 59,000 and KES 64,000 exclusive of VAT for members and non-members respectively. Members in attendance will earn 20 CPE Hours.
