Event: Tools and Techniques for New Auditors (Mandatory Training for New Internal Audit Staff)

Are you an internal auditor in the early stages of your career? Learning and understanding the fundamentals of internal auditing is a necessary step if you want to grow quickly within the profession. The workshop on Tools and Techniques for New Internal Auditors is designed to provide you with essential training and resources needed in the early stages of your career. This workshop provides an overview of the life cycle of an audit engagement, including planning, examining the internal control environment and audit governance, obtaining and presenting audit evidence, and successfully wrapping up the engagement.

The workshop targets auditors with a cumulative experience of three years or less and will provide essential building blocks needed to become an effective internal auditor. The workshop will use practical applications to provide the critical elements that new auditors can use and apply to their jobs.

Key areas to be covered include:

  • Core elements of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
  • Alignment of Global Internal Audit Standards (GIS) with IPPF.
  • Components of the audit model.
  • Requirements for annual audit planning.
  • Roles and responsibilities for organizational governance.
  • Components of audit interviews.
  • Best practices for conducting and documenting interviews.
  • Risks and key controls during the risk assessment process.
  • Steps necessary to wrap up the audit after the report is issued.
  • Analytics of Internal Audit.
  • Use of Computer Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques to analyze data.
  • Common forms in process documentation.
  • Obtaining and presenting audit evidence.
  • Best practices for disseminating audit results to stakeholders.
  • Steps to wrap up the audit after issue of report.
  • Follow-up and validation of resolutions to audit recommendations.


Auditors who attend the course will be exposed to several tools including internal audit organizational charts, job descriptions, audit charters, applicable guidance, and templates for audit activities.

The workshop will be held from October 14-18, 2024, at Sarova Whitesands Resort, Mombasa. Charges are KES 55,000 and KES ,60000 exclusive of VAT for Members and Non-Members respectively. Members in attendance will earn 20 CPE Hours.

The Institute of Internal Auditors Kenya is an accredited training provider with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA). The NITA registration number is DIT/TRN/558(25b). Participants who are registered levy contributors can apply to NITA for reimbursement of their fees. This applies to Kenyan citizens and is subject to NITA regulations.
